Doncaster Sheffield Airport Update

Notes from the Doncaster Sheffield Airport Roadshow at Finningley Village Hall: the proposed local flight paths were clarified, should they be granted Airspace Change permission. It is planned that flights will commence in 2028. In that year there will be a total of 6 flights (3 arriving and 3 departing) each day. It is envisaged that this will increase within ten years to a total of 34 flights.
The runway will be designated 02, when wind is North-Easterly (30-40% of the time) and 20 for the majority of flights where the wind is South-Westerly. While Everton does not lie directly beneath the runway approaches, it is likely there will be aircraft noise from either route, especially for planes using the 02 runway for arrivals where aircraft will be flying at well below 1000 feet over Bawtry.
In terms of supporting infrastructure, it is anticipated that a new railway station on the LNER route and bus links, possibly from the current Park and Ride at Parrot’s Corner, will offer convenient connections. Around the Airport there will be substantial opportunities for high-skilled employment, some directly involved in aircraft-related industries. Warehousing, as well as Hospitality and Retail sites will also be developed. Peel Holdings have been granted permission for around 1,400 homes opposite Mount Pleasant Hotel which will provide homes for some of the future workforce. The whole site is “larger than Central Sheffield”!
The Civil Aviation Authority will announce its decision in May 2027.
